Maraca Planets for Leo Lagna:

Notes: For Leo Lagna, the 7th house is considered a prime Maraca, but the 2nd house can be more potent in causing death when under malefic influences. The lord of the 2nd or planets placed therein is particularly significant.

General understanding: Malefic planets in the 2nd and 7th houses, or aspects to these houses, are critical Maraca factors. Their influence can leave them vulnerable during their dashas or antardashas, especially if afflicted.

• The placement of the Sun affects various facets of personality and life depending on its house.
• For Cancer Lagna, Sun’s placement in the 4th and 8th houses particularly influences domestic life, health, and paternal links.
• The effect of the Sun is also moderated by aspects and the strength or affliction of the planets involved.

Meaning: For those born in Cancer Lagna, Mercury and Venus are malefics. Jupiter and Mars are benefics. If there is a conjunction between Jupiter and Mars, good results will be there.

Explanations: For Cancer Lagna, Mercury owns the 3^rd and 12^th houses and hence malefics. Venus gains ownership of the 4th Kendra and, hence, is considered evil due to Kendradipatya Dosha. Due to the ownership of the 11^th house, Venus gets Badhakathipathya Dosha. Hence, Mercury and Venus are malefics for Cancer Lagna. Since Mars owns the 5^th trikona and the 10^th Kendra, he becomes a full benefic. Since Jupiter gets the ownership of the 9^th house of Bhagya, he also becomes a benefic. If Jupiter and the 5^th and 10^th lord, Mars, conjoin, a powerful Dharma Karmadhipati yoga results. Generally, for Cancer Lagna, Mars is a full Yoga karaka, and it is sufficient if he alone is strong.

The Sun, by owning the 2^nd house (a Maraca-sthana), becomes simply neutral. The blemish of Maraca does not occur to the Sun. Moreover, he is friendly to the Lagna Lord Moon.

As per my Guru, the following point about the Sun for Cancer Lagna may be noted:

Sun

Lord of the second house of the family. For a movable sign, the second house is a maraca place; hence, the Sun is considered a maraca planet. But he will not kill is the considered opinion of all. Family, speech, finance, education, and the right eye are some of the karakatwa of the Sun. Hence, he should be strong. If he is placed in his own house in the second, the ability to speak, higher education, financial benefits, a good family, and fame will be forthcoming. If he is exalted in the 10^th, advancement in Government posts will be coming. Generally, if he gets strength, the results of the second house will be good. Authority, position, and fame will be there. If he is spoiled, an economic crisis, a downfall in his profession or business, or a political downfall will result. Troubles in the family will follow, including separation from it. Being a friend of the Lagna lord, it is good if he is placed in the 1^st, 2^nd, 5^th, 9^th, 10^th, or 11^th houses.

Introduction

Gemini Lagna is the third zodiac sign. Mercury is its lord. Gemini is a dual, intellectual, and communicative sign. Education, Writing, Business, Teaching, Trading, Publishing, Advertising, Communication, Intelligence, Logical Thinking. Hands, Shoulders, Lungs are the significations of this sign. It is Dual – Multiple professions, versatility. If Ketu is here, the person may have occult knowledge or suffer from mental instability.

Sun, the lord of the third house, is a friend of Mercury. Since he gets the ownership of the third house, the general opinion is that he is malefic. Since the third house is an Upachaya place, it will give only growth. Younger siblings, courage, writing capacity, success or failure, and travel will all be denoted by the third house, and hence, placement of the Sun must be good, and he should be with strength. If it is so, there will be many younger siblings, and there will be a good understanding with them. The ability to discuss things will increase. If he is placed in the 10^th house, it will give yoga. Finance will be better. Good placement for the Sun is the 3^rd, 4^th, 5^th, 6^th, 9^th, 10^th, or 11^th.

 

Benefics

Since Mercury is the Lagna Lord and Venus is the lord of the fifth trikona, these are the two benefic planets.

Yoga karakas

                  Many scriptures state that the fifth lord, Venus, is the only yoga karaka. But in Thandavamalai, it is stated that the ninth lord, even if he gets any other lordship or conjoins any other malefic, will not give malefic results. Hence, Saturn and Venus can give Yoga.

Malefics

Sun, because of the ownership of the third house, Mars, due to ownership of the 6^th and 11^th house, and Jupiter, due to ownership of the seventh house, are malefics. Mars is a full malefic. Since Jupiter got the ownership of the 10^th house, he is half benefic and half malefic. Mars and Sun are malefics.

Meaning: For those born in Gemini Lagna, Mars, Jupiter, and Sun are malefics. Noble Venus alone is a good planet. If there is a conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn, the great Raja Yoga, namely Dharma Karmadhipati Yoga, will not result.

When we turn to Nadi principles, Sri R.G. Rao has the following to say about Gemini Lagna and Sun:

When Sun occupies certain houses in Gemini Lagna, such as the 1st (Gemini), 4th (Virgo), or 10th (Pisces), or is strongly placed and well-aspected, it indicates a father with qualities connected to those houses and signs – e.g., emphasis on communication, intellect, service, or career. As the 3rd lord, the Sun affects siblings, courage, and efforts, which may have paternal connections.

Nadi Sutra Example with Gemini Sign. If Mars is in Gemini with Saturn in Pisces as part of a planetary combination aspecting the Sun, indicating possible health or karmic challenges involving the father and service/rivalry, which could apply to Gemini Lagna natives, depending on planetary placements.

Since our Eswara Nadi invariably mentions the lineage of the father and especially the siblings of the father, some principles as per Nadi rules need to be verified.

Siblings are primarily influenced by the lord of the 3rd house (Sun), placements/aspects of Mars and Jupiter, and combinations involving Venus and Saturn. The number and well-being of siblings are derived by carefully examining these planetary positions and influences.

The balance of male and female siblings may be indicated by the combination of Venus (feminine) and Saturn (neutral/male), as noted in some charts in Nadi books. This can help interpret the number and gender in general.

Bhrigu Samhita supports analysing siblings via the 3rd house (Leo for Gemini Lagna), Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn as sibling karakas.

Vers உதையத்தில் பிதுர்க்காரகனுடன் லக்கின சுகாதிபதி கூடி, கர்மாதிபதியான தேவ குருவால் பார்க்கப்பட்டால் ஜாதகனுக்கு ஆண்டு மூன்றில் தந்தை தாய் இருவரும் அரிட்டமாவரென்பர்.

Translation: Gemini Lagna- Sun in Lagna, along with Mercury and aspected by Jupiter from Sagittarius. At the age of 3, his father and mother will either die or face misfortune.

Explanation:

• As per Bhrighu Chakra Paddhati, the 3^rd house gets activated in the 3^rd year of the native. The third house is the Sun’s house, indicating an event about the father. Lords of the adjacent houses, 2^nd  (Mercury) and 12^th (Moon) houses, may become maraca. 7^th house lord Jupiter also aspects the Sun and the activated 3^rd house. Mother, indicated by the 4^th lord Mercury, is also under the influence of the 3^rd lord and 7^th lord.
• As per the Nadi rule, Gemini is an inimical sign for the Sun. The 4^th lord of the mother is placed with the Sun and hence might be combust. Now this combination is aspected by Jupiter. Jupiter’s role in this horoscope is maraca for the father and mother. How? Jupiter is the 7^th lord from the Sun, the father. Jupiter becomes a maraca, as he is the 2nd lord in the father's 9th house. Now, Jupiter is in the 7^th house of maraca for the mother, reckoned from the 4^th house of the mother. Jupiter is placed in the 7^th house of maraca from the 4^th house lord Mercury.

·       The combination of Sun and Mercury in the Lagna with Jupiter aspect is notably indicative of early life trauma or significant life events, including the death of parents, especially if connected with other malefic influences or certain house significations.

• The Nadi logic may see Mercury and the Sun’s union under a maraca aspect as a trigger for early parental loss or misfortune.

Thus, the prediction of parental loss or major affliction at age 3 is logically derived from:

• Weakening of karakas (Sun and Mercury)
• Maraca aspect by Jupiter
• Lagna hosting both karakas indicates impact falls directly on the self (early age).

A detailed description of Eswara Nadi is furnished in my first book on this series – ‘Eswara Nadi-1-Surya Khandam-Aries Lagna’. Readers can do the same to gain a clear understanding of these Tamil Nadi verses. The entire Surya Khandam describes the lineage of the father of the native, his living conditions, his positive and negative traits, his financial condition, his health and disease, and finally his death. In short, the entire Nadi talks about the father from the planetary positions in the son’s horoscope. In the majority of verses, the siblings of the father and the time of death of the father are the major predictions. From the tables listed in the Aries Lagna, readers might have judged this point. Hence, I am giving the major rules for determining the father's siblings, as well as the rules for determining the father's time of death. These rules have been compiled from the Bhrigu Nandi Nadi, the Bruhat Samhita, and various Nadi rules by Sri R.G. Rao and Sri Shankar Adhwal, among others. Readers can also refer to the rules tabularized in the first book, Aries Lagna.

For Taurus Lagna, the Sun holds significant influence as the Pitru Karaka (significator of the father), representing the father, elder son, political power, leadership, and the soul. Crucially, for the Taurus Ascendant, the Sun is the lord of the 4th house, which governs comforts, mother, home, and immovable property. • Sun in Leo (Own House / 4th House for Taurus Lagna) When the Sun is placed in Leo, its own house, which is the 4th house for Taurus Lagna, it is considered strong and dignified. This placement signifies strong roots and a deep attachment to land, property, and family values. Parental influence, especially from the father or paternal lineage, becomes pivotal. It can lead to a love for luxurious vehicles, comfort, and status. This position favours authoritative roles and political inclinations, and the father may have a high-status or authoritative employment, potentially in government. While the Sun is inherently a mild malefic, its Kendra ownership (4th house) and placement in its own sign make it neutral to benefic, conferring dignity and status.

• Sun Debilitated in Libra. The provided text does not specifically detail the effects of the Sun debilitated in Libra for Taurus Lagna. However, it generally states that the Sun's ability to confer benefits depends on its strength, including whether it is exalted or debilitated. A debilitated placement would imply a reduction in its auspiciousness compared to a strong placement. Libra is ruled by Venus, an inimical planet to the Sun.

• Sun Exalted in Aries. When the Sun is strong, such as being exalted in Aries, its role as the 4th lord becomes more benefic for Taurus Lagna. This strength yields positive outcomes, including property gains, emotional stability, and a supportive familial environment.

உதயத்தில் பிதுர்க்காரகன், தன, பஞ்சமாதிபதிகளுடன் கூடியிருந்தால், ஜாதகனுக்கு மூன்றாண்டில் பிதுர் மாதர்கள் மரணத்தை அடைவனென்பர்.

Translation: Sun and Mercury are placed in Taurus Lagna; the native’s father and mother will die when the native is three years old.

• The Sun, as the 4th lord (representing the mother), governs the mother’s significations. Mercury, as the 2nd lord from the 4th house (Cancer), also acts as a maraka for the mother. Its conjunction with the Sun further amplifies the possibility of the mother’s death. 

Why in the 3rd Year?
This is more nuanced and may be linked to the timing logic used in Nadi texts, which isn’t always based on classical dasha-bhukti but rather on age-linked triggers from placements. Possible reasoning:

a. Mercury as 2nd Lord — Maraka acts quickly
• Maraka lords (2nd or 7th) often cause death in their dasha or antardasha, or early years if conjoined key karakas.

b. Use of Age-Linked Triggers in Nadi
• In Nadi-style logic, when two malefic indicators combine strongly (karaka + maraka), the result is often predicted to happen very early, sometimes in fixed ages like 3, 5, 7, or 12 — especially when in Lagna.

• In this case:
o Lagna is under affliction (Sun + Mercury acting as double maraka),
o The native’s self is under karmic impact (Lagna = life = early sorrow),
Sun is the karaka for the father, and as the 4th house lord for Taurus Lagna, Sun indicates the mother also. Mercury is the 2nd lord of maraka from Sun (the father as well as mother), and this conjunction is capable of bringing death to both. According to Bhrigu Chakra Paddhati, in the 3rd year, the 3rd house is activated.  The 3rd house is in Cancer, indicating the mother, per the natural zodiac.  From the 3rd house, Mercury becomes the 12th lord of exit for the mother. From the 3rd house, which is activated, the Sun becomes the 2nd lord of maraka and is represented as the father. Hence, the verse is justified in giving the death of the parents when the native is 3 years old.

Eswara Nadi-Surya Khandam -Aries Lagna

 Eswara Nadi-1 – Surya Khandam-Aries Lagna

Eswara Nadi was said to be the work of a great Tamil poet called ‘Agasthiyar.’ He has stated that it was said by Lord Parameshwara, or Lord Shiva, to his consort, Goddess Parvati. He has written one Khandam for each planet, making a total of seven Khandams. In each Khandam planet’s position, starting from the placement of Lagna to the 12th house, are given, and the results thereof. This is the first book, and it contains the Sun's position for Aries Lagna. For each position of the Sun starting from Lagna, five verses and their results are given. As the entire work is in Tamil, I have provided the Tamil verses, their translation, and a comprehensive analysis and interpretation based on astrological, Nadi, and various other principles of astrology. A final summary of verses, the planet’s position, and the results is also tabulated for easy reference.

When the Sun is in the Lagna (Aries), it is exalted. As the 5th lord and Pitru Karaka, this position amplifies the karmic imprint of the father in the native’s identity. The father's destiny is closely intertwined with the native’s physical and psychological well-being. This often reflects a prominent father figure, or early challenges affecting the father through the native’s karma. Fame, authority, or loss may manifest depending on aspects.

The Sun, as the 5th lord, is exalted in Aries Lagna, and can have significant implications for the father, given the Sun's karakatwa (significator) for father in Vedic astrology. Here are some general outcomes:

Let us investigate the Nadi Observations.

 Verse 1   

உதயத்தில், பஞ்சமாதிபதி உச்சனாயும், லக்கின, அஷ்டமாதிபதியான அங்காரகன் தசம கேந்திரம் நின்று, பிதுர் ஸ்தானாதிபதி த்விதிய ஸ்தானத்தில் நின்றால், பிதாவின் சகோதரம் பெண் ஒன்று. பிதா வித்தை யில்லாதவனாயும், சுகமில்லாதவனாயுமிருப்பான்.

Planet Position: Fifth lord Sun exalted and placed in the first house (Aries), Lord of Lagna and 8^th house Mars is in the 10^th house, lord of the Pitrusthana, i.e., 9^th house, Jupiter is in the 2^nd house.

 

Result: The native’s father will have only one sister. His father will be without education, without any skills, and will also be unhealthy. He will be a person with fewer comforts.

Explanation: The verse gives one sister only to the native’s father. Sun, the karaka of the father, since placed in Aries, the 3^rd house, Gemini, and the 11^th house, Aquarius, will indicate siblings. No planets are mentioned in these two houses. And there is no mention of the lords of these two houses, either. Next, the karaka for a sibling is Mars. Mars is exalted in the 10^th house of Karma. Mars thus indicates male siblings. But why does the Nadi give one female sibling? Mars’ exaltation in karma sthana indicates a greater importance placed on karma than on family support. Next, Jupiter aspects this Mars. Jupiter is the lord of the 9^th house of dharma and 12^th house of loss for the father, taken from the position of the Sun, the father. Jupiter is in the enemy’s house—a Venusian, tamasic, pleasure-oriented sign, which does not support Jupiter’s sattvic, knowledge-giving nature. Thus, Jupiter loses some of his power as a benefic guide to family structure and education. Jupiter’s weakened position might explain the father's lack of education and the presence of a single female sibling.

The denial of comforts to the father is also because of Jupiter’s weak position. Malefic Mars aspecting the Sun and the 4^th house from the Sun are the reasons for fewer comforts for the father.

Mars, being the natural malefic aspecting the 4^th house of education, may be the reason the father did not receive an education. We have already seen that Jupiter is also responsible for the father's lack of education. He is the 12^th lord from the karaka Sun and is placed in the 6^th house from the father's 9th house. The placement in the 2^nd house of primary education and fundamental knowledge is thus compromised.

For health issues, we look at the 6^th, 8^th, and 12^th houses. Jupiter is the 12^th lord and aspects the 6^th house from Sun, the father; Mars is the 8^th lord from Sun and aspects Sun, the father. From the 9^th house, Father Jupiter is placed in the 6^th house, and an inimical sign for him. Mars also becomes the 12^th lord from the father's 9th house; hence, there are health problems for the father.
